Which Civic years usually need a typed code?

Public guides commonly point to roughly 2001 through about 2012 Civics for typed codes. Many newer Civics try the power-button unlock first, and the newest manuals may send you to a dealer if that fails. Check the year cutover against your owner's manual.

Find the Civic serial

Most audio-only Civics use the presets 1 and 6 method described in our serial guide. Write all eight digits from the U and L screens.

Enter the code

Follow how to enter your Honda radio code. Do not guess repeatedly.

Official option

US owners can also use Honda's complimentary radio-navicode.honda.com lookup with VIN and serial.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 2020 Civic need a typed radio code?

Often no. Try the power-button unlock with ignition ON, then check the manual or dealer path.

Can I use VIN alone on this form?

Our form needs the radio serial (and model). Honda's official US site typically wants VIN plus serial.
